Welcome to Five Petal Farm!
A little about me - My name is Jennifer Hobbs and I am the owner and operator of Five Petal Farm. I have a degree in Botany from the University of Iowa and have been a sustainable farmer, botanist and all around creative soul for much of my adult life.
The farm's mission is to provide locally grown, in-season fresh flowers and herbs utilizing sustainable farming practices and promoting environmental stewardship. I grow specialty flowers and herbs for local customers, florists, farmers' markets, weddings and other events. Fresh flower bouquets and buckets can be ordered (local residents only) online during the growing season which is May through October, weather permitting. Dried botanicals, pressed plants and other gifts are also available year round in my online shop.
Simply put, I love farming. I love flowers, their structure, color and design. Most of all, I love sharing my flowers with others. Even though my urban farm is small, it is mighty! I grow on less than 1/4 acre of land so I try to utilize as much space as I can, planting in every nook and cranny. My gardens contain over 150 types of flowers, herbs and foliage - this diversity creates such a lovely, biodynamic eco-system and it's right outside my door! UPDATE: Five Petal Farm is moving! Please bear with me if you're looking for flowers for May through August - I'm already booked up with orders, events and weddings. Please keep an eye out for further updates.
Did you know that most of the flowers sold in the United States (approximately 70 - 80%) are imported and grown using harmful chemicals? When you buy flower and herb bouquets from Five Petal Farm, I guarantee they are freshly harvested, farmed sustainably and that no chemicals have been used. Their aroma is oh-so-intoxicating and the best part? My flowers and herbs are recyclable! When the bouquets are almost spent, you can wrap a ribbon around the stems, hang them upside down to dry and re-use.
As a sustainable farmer, it's important for me to be as eco-friendly as possible. I recycle just about everything and any garden waste left over is composted and re-applied to my garden beds for the following year or taken to a larger composting facility. I use recyclable Kraft paper to wrap my fresh bouquets and Kraft paper bags/boxes and cardboard mailers for my packaging.
For fresh flowers, we serve the Eastern Iowa Corridor including Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty, Solon, Tiffin and the surrounding area (additional charge for delivery outside our immediate area).
There is so much to be done everyday, but I truly love every minute of it! Thank you to all of my customers, friends and family for your support! I couldn't do this without you.
